My daughter has been a dancer since she was 4 years old. One year the nonprofit that created her ballet company held a fundraiser. They asked if I would donate a painting to their silent auction. I decided to paint one specifically for them. I was browsing for reference photos of dancers. For some strange reason, a picture of a flower came up with all of the pictures of dancers.  When I saw it, I immediately pictured it upside-down as a ballerina skirt. I painted the flower with the canvas upside down first, then turned it back to right side up to paint the dancer.
